Instructions to Authors

JMHMR welcomes original research, systematic and narrative reviews, case reports, brief reports, protocols and scholarly correspondence across medicine, public health, rehabilitation, allied health and biomedical sciences. Submit in clear English through this online system.

Files and anonymisation

Upload a separate title page containing the article title, all author names and affiliations, corresponding author email, ORCID identifiers where available, author contributions, funding, conflicts of interest and acknowledgements. Upload an anonymised manuscript in editable Word format. Remove identifying author details from the manuscript, file properties, tracked changes and comments. Provide unredacted ethics and registration information separately for editorial assessment if anonymisation is necessary.

Manuscript preparation

Include a concise title, abstract and 3–6 keywords. Original research should use a structured abstract (Background, Methods, Results and Conclusion) and Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion sections. Explain study design, setting, recruitment, sample-size rationale, outcomes, statistical methods and limitations. Report effect sizes and uncertainty where appropriate. Reviews must explain search and selection methods; systematic reviews should include a reproducible search strategy, risk-of-bias assessment and study-selection flow diagram. Case reports should include a clinical timeline and patient perspective where appropriate.

Number tables and figures consecutively, cite each in the text and provide self-contained titles or legends. Supply editable tables and high-resolution figures. Define abbreviations at first use and use SI units where applicable. Do not duplicate the same results unnecessarily in text, tables and figures.

References

Use Vancouver style: number references consecutively in order of first citation and provide a matching numbered reference list. Verify authors, titles, journal details, year, volume, pages or article numbers, and DOI where available. Cite relevant original sources; do not include fabricated, irrelevant or promotional references.

Ethics and reporting

For human or animal research, report the approving ethics committee and approval identifier, or explain a documented exemption. State how consent was obtained. Identifiable patient information and case reports require appropriate written consent for publication. Clinical trials must report registration and its timing; explain any retrospective registration transparently. Use the reporting guideline appropriate to the design, including CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE, SPIRIT, STARD, TRIPOD or ARRIVE, and supply the applicable checklist.

Include statements on funding and funder involvement, competing interests, author contributions, data availability, and use of AI-assisted tools. All authors must approve the submission and accept accountability. AI tools cannot be authors; authors remain responsible for accuracy, originality and confidentiality. Identify simulated or synthetic data explicitly and never present them as participant observations.

Originality and peer review

Submissions must not be under consideration elsewhere. Disclose related publications, preprints and overlapping datasets in the cover letter. After editorial screening, suitable research manuscripts undergo double-anonymised peer review. Editors make decisions on scholarly merit independently of payment or waiver decisions. Acceptance and publication dates are not guaranteed.

Charges, access and publication

There is no submission fee. The article processing charge is US$99, payable only after acceptance. Full or partial waivers and discounts may be requested from editor@jmhmr.com before acceptance, explaining financial need or circumstances. Requests are assessed individually and do not influence editorial decisions. Authors retain copyright and accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). JMHMR publishes twice yearly, in April and October.

Submission Preparation Checklist

  • The manuscript falls within JMHMR’s scope and follows the Author Guidelines.
  • The work is original, is not under consideration elsewhere, and all authors approve this submission.
  • A separate title page and anonymised manuscript are supplied; identifying file properties and comments have been removed.
  • Ethics approval or exemption, consent, registration and applicable reporting checklists are included where required.
  • Funding, competing interests, author contributions, data availability and any AI use are disclosed.
  • References are accurate and use Vancouver style; figures, tables and permissions are complete.
  • The authors understand the US$99 post-acceptance APC, waiver/discount policy and CC BY 4.0 publication terms.

Articles

This section accepts original research, reviews, case reports, short communications and methodological papers across JMHMR’s health and medicine scope. Select the appropriate article type in your cover letter and follow the article-type guidance.

Submissions undergo editorial screening and double-anonymised external peer review. Research and review papers normally receive at least two independent reports; case reports and methodological papers also receive external review. Provide a separate title page, an anonymised manuscript, the applicable reporting checklist and all required declarations.

Read the manuscript preparation instructions, research ethics requirements and APC and waiver policy. Acceptance is based on scholarly merit and is independent of payment.

Perspectives, Editorials & Correspondence

This section considers evidence-based perspectives, editorials and letters relevant to health and medicine. Perspectives normally use up to 2,000 words, editorials 1,500 and letters 1,000, excluding references. Abstracts are not normally required.

Contributions undergo editorial assessment and may be sent for external expert review when needed. They are not automatically classified as externally peer-reviewed research. Disclose funding, competing interests and substantive AI assistance; obtain permissions for reused material. Letters about a published article should identify it precisely, support criticisms with evidence and use respectful language. The article’s authors may be invited to respond.

The journal’s publication policies, including the post-acceptance APC and waiver process, apply. Use the Articles section for original research, reviews, case reports and methodological papers.

Privacy Statement

JMHMR, published and managed by Acadentium Research, uses information supplied through this journal website to administer accounts, submissions, peer review, publication and related correspondence.

Information and purposes

Account and submission information may include names, affiliations, email addresses, ORCID identifiers, manuscript files, contributor details, declarations and editorial correspondence. The platform may also process technical information needed to operate and secure the website. Provide only information necessary for the journal’s work.

Editorial access and publication

Access to unpublished material is restricted to people who need it for journal operations, such as authorised editors, reviewers and production staff. Double-anonymised review files should not contain unnecessary identifying details. Published articles make author names, affiliations, agreed correspondence details and article metadata public; this information may be collected by repositories and discovery services.

Sharing and confidentiality

Information is not sold for unrelated marketing. Necessary service providers may process information to support journal operations. Disclosure may also be required to investigate research-integrity concerns or meet applicable legal obligations. Unpublished manuscripts and reviewer correspondence must be treated confidentially.

Retention and requests

Editorial records are retained as needed to administer submissions, document decisions and protect the scholarly record. Published authorship and article metadata form part of that record and may need to remain available. To request access, correction or deletion of account information, contact editor@jmhmr.com. Requests will be assessed against applicable obligations and the need to retain essential editorial records.

Participant information

Do not upload identifiable patient records or signed consent forms unnecessarily. Authors are responsible for appropriate consent, anonymisation and permissions. Sensitive supporting documentation should be provided only when requested through an appropriate channel.
