Manuscript Preparation & Reporting
Prepare an editable Word document in clear English. British English is preferred; use one spelling convention consistently. Use a readable 12-point font, double spacing, numbered pages and continuous line numbers.
Separate title page
Include the full title, short running title, author names, institutional affiliations, countries, corresponding-author postal and email contact, ORCID identifiers where available, article type and word count. Supply funding, contributions, competing interests and acknowledgements separately where they reveal author identities.
Anonymised main file
Include the title, abstract, three to six keywords, main text, references, tables and figure legends. Remove author names, affiliations and identifying document properties. Use neutral wording for self-citations; do not remove essential references. Supply identifying ethics details separately when temporary masking is necessary and restore them before publication.
Structure and methods
Original research should normally use Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion. Describe design, setting, dates, eligibility, recruitment, sample-size reasoning, ethics, measures and analysis. Report effect estimates and uncertainty, exact P values where useful, and limitations. Reviews must describe how literature was identified and appraised.
References, tables and figures
Use numbered Vancouver-style references in order of first citation. Check every citation against the original source and include a DOI where available. Tables must be editable, numbered and self-contained. Upload figures separately at publication-quality resolution, with readable labels and descriptive legends; avoid screenshots of tables. Explain abbreviations and identify permissions.
Reporting checklists
Submit the relevant checklist with manuscript page numbers: CONSORT for randomised trials, STROBE for observational studies, PRISMA for systematic reviews, CARE for case reports, and the appropriate guideline for other designs. Consult the EQUATOR Network for current versions and extensions.
Revision
Return a point-by-point response, a clean revised file and a marked version. Maintain anonymity during review. New analyses and changes to conclusions must be explained.
